Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made a major announcement during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Microsoft will invest $17.5 billion, approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore, to expedite India’s transition to an AI-first future. Nadella described the investment as the company’s largest in Asia. He stated that this pledge will boost India’s AI infrastructure while also expanding the country’s skills and digital sovereignty.
Nadella shared an update on X and praised PM Modi for what he described as an encouraging and forward-looking conversation. He stated that India’s transformation in the AI era is gaining global confidence.
Prime Minister Modi responded enthusiastically. In his X message, he stated that India is regarded as an emerging force in artificial intelligence. He added that Microsoft’s decision to make India its largest Asian investment indicates world leaders’ confidence in the country’s talent pool. PM Modi expressed confidence that young innovators will use AI to create meaningful solutions.
The announcement follows Microsoft’s previous promise to invest $3 billion in cloud and AI programs, including new data centres. Nadella highlighted that India is rapidly establishing itself as a hub of AI innovation. Microsoft intends to create a scalable computing ecosystem to assist start-ups and researchers across the nation.
