President Vladimir Putin presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, the highest civilian award in Russia, in appreciation of his outstanding efforts to strengthen the strategic alliance between Russia and India.
PM Modi thanked Putin during the event and emphasised the value of the unique and privileged strategic alliance between the two countries while dedicating the distinction to the Indian people.
Tsar Peter the Great founded the Order of St. Andrew in 1698, and it is considered the pinnacle of chivalry. Russia has a rich historical and cultural heritage. On its badge, a double-headed eagle and the words “For Faith and Loyalty” are written alongside a golden cross with blue enamel that depicts Saint Andrew the Apostle being crucified.
Recipients of the order are eminent figures in various fields who have made outstanding contributions to the security, prosperity, and sovereignty of Russia.
The order for exceptional service to Russia may also be given to heads of state from other countries. After the award, the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia displays the recipient’s portrait, commissioned by the Russian president’s office as a tribute to their accomplishments.
