Top Leaders Congratulate Indian Women’s Football Team on Record SAFF Triumph

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other leaders, congratulated the Indian Women’s Football Team after it defeated defending champions Bangladesh 3-1 in the final at Madgaon in Goa to win its sixth SAFF Championship 2026 title, further strengthening the team’s dominance in South Asian women’s football.

President Murmu praised the team on social media for displaying exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork throughout the tournament. She stated that this remarkable achievement would inspire young girls nationwide to pursue their dreams of becoming confident sportswomen.

Vice President Radhakrishnan described the triumph as a proud moment for the nation and said the record-extending title reflected the growth and support for women’s football in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team for outstanding performance throughout the tournament. He added that the victory would encourage more youngsters to take up football in the future.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the achievement as a testament to the players’ hard work and dedication over the years. Meanwhile, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya expressed that this moment brings immense pride to the nation for Indian football. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised the team’s unwavering determination, noting that their achievement would inspire countless young girls to take up sports in the years to come.

The victory marked another significant chapter in India’s history at the SAFF Women’s Championship, with the team asserting its dominance in regional football once again after defeating defending champions Bangladesh in the final.
