16-Year-Old Syndrela Das Shocks Manika Batra in UTT Season 7

Sixteen-year-old Syndrela Das emerges as one of the biggest breakthrough stars of Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Season 7 after defeating India’s top paddler Manika Batra in straight games. The Manika Batra upset came while representing Dempo Goa Challengers, helping the two-time champions edge Ahmedabad APL Pipers 8-7 at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Goa.

The Syndrela Das UTT Season 7 performance showcased the teenager’s composure against one of India’s most experienced players. She blanked World No. 52 Manika Batra across all three games and was named the Match IQ Player of the Tie and Indian Player of the Tie for her standout display.

The victory does not stand as just an isolated achievement. Before UTT, Das had already established herself as one of India’s brightest young table tennis talents by winning the Under-15 Girls’ Singles title at the WTT Youth Contender in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy. She defeated fellow Indian Divyanshi Bhowmick in a thrilling five-game final after recovering from a 2-1 deficit.

The Syndrela Das UTT Season 7 campaign reflects a broader generational shift in Indian women’s table tennis, with several young players challenging established stars. Playing alongside international players Bernadette Szocs and Alvaro Robles for Dempo Goa Challengers, Das has shown she can compete on the biggest domestic stage. Her latest performances further strengthen her reputation as one of the most promising young talents in Indian table tennis.
