Gautam Rangarajan Joins Downing Street as Expert Adviser on Government Reform

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has appointed Indian-origin strategist Gautam Rangarajan as Expert Adviser on Structure and Process at 10 Downing Street. Rangarajan takes up the new position this week.

The PM’s office said Rangarajan brings significant experience in corporate strategy and transformation. His background includes more than 20 years across media, creative industries, and public service broadcasting.

Rangarajan previously worked as a strategist at the BBC. He has focused on strategy development, large-scale transformation, and high-stakes policy and financial agreements.

His appointment comes as Burnham continues restructuring the UK government. The Prime Minister has launched No. 10 North in Manchester as part of his devolution agenda.

Burnham has also created the Office for the Prime Minister and Cabinet. The new office brings together teams supporting the Prime Minister across Downing Street, No. 10 North, and the Cabinet Office.

Rangarajan is expected to contribute to the government’s wider transformation efforts. He also works as a professional choral singer and music producer.

The appointment comes during Parliament’s summer recess. Burnham has been using the period for a nationwide tour focused on cost-of-living measures and other “everyday fixes.
