India and Japan Target New Investment in Energy, Mobility and Manufacturing

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met senior Japanese business leaders in Tokyo to expand investment and manufacturing partnerships with India.

Goyal met executives from Sumitomo Corporation, Meiji Seika Pharma and Mitsubishi Corporation during his four-day Japan visit.

He is leading a nearly 200-member business delegation focused on strengthening India-Japan economic ties.

With Sumitomo Corporation, Goyal discussed opportunities in energy transformation, mobility and industrial infrastructure. He highlighted India’s expanding manufacturing ecosystem and investment-led growth.

His meeting with Meiji Seika Pharma focused on pharmaceutical manufacturing and research and development in India. Goyal said India’s pharmaceutical ecosystem offers opportunities for long-term Japanese investment.

Goyal also met Mitsubishi Corporation to discuss mobility, energy and infrastructure. The company has maintained a presence in India for more than nine decades.

The wider visit covers Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, with discussions spanning semiconductors, clean energy, steel, automobiles, healthcare and financial services.

India-Japan bilateral trade reached $27.47 billion in FY2025-26. Japanese exports to India stood at $21.43 billion, while Indian exports reached $6.04 billion.
