Athletes from the Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune won 12 medals at the 2026 Asian Games, accounting for 60 per cent of the 20 medals won by Indian Army athletes.
A total of 25 ASI athletes competed for India at the Games, with medals coming across athletics, boxing, archery and wrestling.
Athletics was the biggest contributor, with six medals. Gulveer Singh won three, taking silver in the 1,500 metres and 10,000 metres and bronze in the 5,000 metres. Sawan Barwal added a silver in the marathon, while Sarvesh Kushare won silver in the high jump. Dharmveer was part of India’s bronze-winning men’s 4×400-metre relay team.
In boxing, Sub Ankush won gold, while Sub Narender and Hav Kapil took bronze. Sub Dhiraj added two silver medals in archery, winning the team and mixed team events. He also scored 698 out of 720 to set an Asian record.
The remaining medal came from wrestling, where Sub Deepak Punia won bronze in the men’s 97-kilogram freestyle event.
Barwal’s marathon silver ended a 44-year wait for India to win a medal in the men’s Asian Games marathon. Kushare’s silver was India’s first Asian Games medal in the high jump in 56 years.
The ASI operates under the Indian Army’s Mission Olympics programme, providing athletes with specialised coaching, sports science support and training infrastructure.
Its 12 medals made ASI athletes the largest contributors to the Indian Army’s overall medal tally at the Games.
