Egyptian squash player Amina Orfi has become the youngest woman to reach the world No. 1 ranking at 19 years and two months. She moved to the top of the rankings after defeating compatriot Hania El Hammamy in the final of the Qatar Classic last week.
Orfi won the five-game final 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10 to claim her first PSA Platinum title. The victory was also her 15th career title and ended El Hammamy’s spell at the top of the women’s rankings.
The 19-year-old has now broken the previous record for the youngest women’s world No. 1, held by New Zealand’s Susan Devoy. Devoy reached the top ranking at 20 years and two months in 1984.
Orfi is the reigning senior and junior world champion. She won the senior World Championship in May at the age of 18 years and 10 months, becoming the youngest player to claim the title. She also became the first player to hold the senior and junior world championship titles at the same time.
Her latest title adds to a rapid rise through the professional rankings. Orfi had reached the world’s top three by October 2025 before moving into the top position following her Qatar Classic victory.
The Egyptian now leads the women’s squash rankings at 19, ahead of El Hammamy, who had held the No. 1 position before the tournament final.
