Asia Cup 2025: Sri Lanka Clinches Six-Wicket Win Over Hong Kong in Dubai

Sri Lanka defeated Hong Kong by six wickets in the Asia Cup 2025 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, extending Hong Kong’s winless streak in the tournament. The stadium, which had hosted a packed contest the day earlier, was quieter, but Sri Lanka made sure their fans had reason to cheer.

Hong Kong scored 149 for four, with opener Nizakat Khan guiding the innings with an unbeaten 52. Anshuman Rath scored a steady 48, guiding the team to their third-highest T20I total against a Full Member nation.

Sri Lanka, chasing 150, gained early relief as Hong Kong’s fielders missed six catches. Kusal Perera was dropped twice in the 13th over, and Pathum Nissanka repaid them with successive boundaries. Nissanka survived again in the next over, striking three more fours to put Sri Lanka in a commanding position.

The chase was briefly disrupted when Sri Lanka lost four wickets for eight runs, including Nissanka’s runout. With 21 required from 16 deliveries, skipper Yasim Murtaza’s expensive no-ball shifted momentum. Wanindu Hasaranga took advantage, smashing a six off the free hit and following up with successive boundaries to seal victory.

Hong Kong suffered its 14th consecutive defeat in the Asia Cup competitions.
