Assam’s Navyham brought pride to the state and the nation by winning three gold medals at the South Asia International Open Speed Skating Championship 2026, in Malaysia from June 18 to 20.
Competing against participants from India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the young skater delivered an outstanding performance across multiple events. Navyham secured gold medals in the 100-metre Road Race, 200-metre Rink Race and 300-metre Rink Race.
The achievement marked a clean sweep for the Assam athlete, who emerged as a standout performer of the tournament, highlighting the growing presence of Northeast Indian athletes in international skating competitions.
Navyham’s accomplishment is particularly noteworthy as he is the sole participant from Assam selected to represent India at the championship. His campaign showcased remarkable determination, skill and consistency against strong international competitors.
His performance has earned widespread appreciation from the sporting community and brought pride to Assam’s rapidly growing skating fraternity. His success is also expected to inspire young athletes across the region to pursue excellence in the sport.
