Egyptian President El-Sisi Begins Asian Tour With State Visit to South Korea

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in Seoul on October 6 to begin a three-country Asian tour, starting with a state visit to South Korea before travelling to Malaysia and Indonesia.

While the president arrived on Tuesday evening, his formal three-day state visit runs from October 7 to 9, according to the South Korean government. In Seoul, El-Sisi is scheduled to hold talks with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and meet senior executives from major South Korean companies at a business roundtable.

The two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral relations, with economic cooperation, trade and investment among the main areas of focus. Infrastructure and supply chains are also expected to feature in the talks.

Egypt and South Korea have stepped up economic and diplomatic engagement in recent years. Lee visited Egypt in November 2025, while the two countries have continued discussions on development and economic cooperation. El-Sisi last visited South Korea in 2016.

After Seoul, El-Sisi is scheduled to travel to Malaysia for a state visit. It will be his first visit to the country since becoming president in 2014.

The final stop will be Indonesia, where Egypt has also expanded its bilateral ties. The two countries signed a strategic partnership agreement in April 2025 covering cooperation in politics, the economy, defence, education, health, energy and food security.

The tour marks El-Sisi’s latest effort to strengthen Egypt’s relations with Asian economies and expand cooperation beyond its traditional regional partners.

The Egyptian presidency has not announced the overall duration of the tour.
