India opened their Asian Games men’s hockey campaign with a 13-1 victory over Indonesia in their Pool A match at the 2026 Games in Japan. The defending champions scored eight times through different players, with Dilpreet Singh leading the attack with four goals.
Shilanand Lakra opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Abhishek doubled India’s lead in the 12th minute. Dilpreet then scored twice in the space of two minutes, finding the net in the 18th and 19th minutes.
Rajinder Singh added another in the 19th minute before Mandeep Singh scored in the 21st. Harmanpreet Singh converted a penalty corner in the 28th minute to give India a 7-0 lead before half-time.
Indonesia pulled one back through Aulia Al Ardh in the 33rd minute, but India continued to add goals in the second half. Lakra scored again in the 35th minute, followed by Dilpreet’s third in the 37th. Sukhjeet Singh scored twice in the 38th and 48th minutes, while Jugraj Singh and Dilpreet completed India’s tally.
The result gives India an early lead in Pool A as they begin their campaign to retain the Asian Games men’s hockey title. India’s next Pool A match is against Sri Lanka on September 22.
