India and the European Union discussed the implementation of shared priorities under their Strategic Partnership during a meeting in Brussels on September 20. The discussions focused on inter-parliamentary engagement and high-level exchanges between India and the EU.
India’s Ambassador to Belgium and the EU, Pranay Verma, met Pietro Ducci, Director-General for External Policies in the European Parliament. The Indian Embassy in Belgium described the meeting as an exchange of views on inter-parliamentary engagement, high-level exchanges and the implementation of priorities under the India-EU Strategic Partnership.
The engagement comes as India and the EU work under a new strategic framework agreed by their leaders earlier this year. At the EU-India Summit on January 27, 2026, both sides endorsed the Towards 2030: EU-India Joint Comprehensive Strategic Agenda, which provides the framework for cooperation under the partnership.
The agenda covers cooperation across economic relations, technology and innovation, security and defence, connectivity and global issues, as well as people-to-people ties. India and the EU also signed a Security and Defence Partnership at the January summit.
The latest meeting took place as both sides continued work on translating the broader strategic agenda into practical cooperation. Earlier in 2026, the EU and India concluded negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement, while work has continued on other areas of their economic and strategic relationship.
