India Finishes Fourth at Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games With 85 Medals

India finished fourth in the medal standings at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya with 85 medals. The tally comprised 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals.

China topped the standings with 341 medals, including 169 golds. Japan finished second with 83 gold medals, while South Korea placed third.

India’s 85-medal haul was its second-highest total at the Asian Games. The country’s record remains 106 medals at the Hangzhou Games in 2023, when it won 28 gold, 38 silver and 40 bronze medals.

The 2026 campaign included gold medals in both men’s and women’s cricket and hockey. The men’s hockey team defeated Malaysia 5-1 in the final, while the women’s team won the Asian Games title for the first time in 44 years.

India’s men’s and women’s cricket teams also retained their Asian Games T20 titles. The women’s team defeated Sri Lanka in the final, while the men’s team beat Pakistan.

Both men’s and women’s kabaddi teams won gold medals. India also collected medals in archery, athletics, boxing, shooting, wrestling, weightlifting and squash.

Athletics produced 24 medals for the contingent, the highest total among India’s disciplines. Shooting contributed 15 medals, including three golds.

About 500 Indian athletes competed at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, which concluded in Japan on October 4. The 85-medal total placed the country fourth overall and behind China, Japan and South Korea in the final standings.
