Indian Boxer Mandeep Jangra Clinches NBA’s Intercontinental Title In US

Indian boxer Mandeep Jangra creates history by winning the US-based National Boxing Association’s (NBA) intercontinental super featherweight title. He defeated American boxer Gerardo Esquivel in a one-sided manner in Toppenish City, Washington.

To compete for the title on January 26, Friday, Jangra dropped down from his previous 75kg weight class. He left his mark on the professional scene with six incredible victories, of which four were stunning knockouts that sent shockwaves around the boxing community.

Jangra said, “This victory is not just mine but that of every person who has supported me throughout the journey. My coaches, family, fans, etc. stood with me. I dedicate this title to my country.” He further added that he will try to keep winning similar respect and titles for his country.

The 30-year-old is an undefeated professional who hails from Kharian in Haryana’s Sirsa district and made his debut in 2021. Akhil Kumar, an Indian boxer, is his mentor, and the Anglian Medal Hunt Company is supporting him. After his third professional fight, he was trained under former Olympic silver medalist Roy Jones Jr.

In 2013 and 2014, Jangra won silver medals at the Asian Championship and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, respectively. He also has a decent run on the amateur circuit.
