Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, January 25th, 2026, highlighted the central role of family in Indian society, saying India’s family system is deeply rooted in tradition and admired globally. Addressing the nation in the 130th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Modi said many countries view India’s family structure with “great curiosity” and hold it in “high regard”.
Recalling the recent visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Modi praised the UAE’s decision to designate 2026 as the ‘Year of Family’, calling it a commendable step to promote social harmony and community spirit. He said the initiative aims to strengthen family bonds and reinforce values of unity, care, and cooperation.
According to the UAE government, the Year of Family seeks to celebrate the family as the foundation of a strong and compassionate society, while raising awareness about the importance of nurturing close relationships to build resilient communities for future generations.
Sheikh Mohamed’s visit marked his fifth trip to India in a decade and third as UAE President. During the visit, India and the UAE signed a Letter of Intent towards a Strategic Defence Partnership and discussed regional and global issues, reaffirming their commitment to peace and stability.
