Maharashtra Inks $2 Billion Pact with Abu Dhabi Ports to Transform Maritime Future

The Maharashtra government has inked a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth $2 billion with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group and the Investment Resource & Presidential Office of Abu Dhabi. This historic agreement is the first time an Indian state has directly collaborated with the Port of Abu Dhabi, demonstrating Maharashtra’s growing prominence in the global maritime economy.

The diverse cooperation focuses on investments in shipbuilding, shipbreaking, port modernisation, water transport, and even sports management. The program coincides with Maharashtra’s ambitious Blue Economy Vision 2030, which aims to drive long-term coastal and economic prosperity by encouraging collaboration across industries.

The MoU was signed in the presence of senior Maharashtra Maritime Board officials and executives from Abu Dhabi Ports, highlighting India and the UAE’s strong bilateral commitment. The agreement intends to generate thousands of jobs, improve logistics efficiency, and promote innovation through shared technology expertise.

Maharashtra’s collaboration aims to enhance its maritime infrastructure, increase global trade channels, and attract more international investment. The alliance not only displays the state’s proactive global engagement but it also confirms India’s overall goal of becoming a maritime powerhouse.
