Indian wrestler Mansi Ahlawat clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 59kg category at the Senior World Wrestling Championships in Tirana, Albania, delivering a strong performance at the international stage.
Mansi defeated Canada’s Laurence Beauregard 5-0 in the medal bout on Wednesday night, earning her a podium position. Japan’s Risainjo won the gold medal in the category, while Mongolia’s Tserenchimed Sukhee claimed silver. Germany’s Elena Heike Brugger shared the bronze medal alongside Mansi.
This marked an important achievement for her at one of the sport’s biggest international competitions, showing strong control and disciplined defence in the bronze medal match; she successfully kept her Canadian opponent from scoring any points.Meanwhile, in the men’s freestyle 92kg category, Indian wrestler Sandeep S Mann advanced to the repechage round and is scheduled to face Slovakia’s Batyrbek Tsakulov later tonight.
India, however, performed disappointingly in other categories. In the women’s 65kg division, Manisha Bhanwala missed out during the repechage round, with Bipasha being eliminated after losing to Ukraine’s Anastasiya Alpyeyeva in the 72kg qualification round.
Mansi’s medal once again highlighted India’s growing presence in women’s wrestling, with Indian grapplers continuing to deliver strong performances at major global championships.
