Neeraj Chopra finished second at the Lausanne Diamond League with a season-best throw of 88.05 metres.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the javelin competition with 88.14m, edging Chopra by just nine centimetres. Grenada’s Anderson Peters finished third with 86.69m.
Chopra opened with 83.54m before producing his best throw in the second round. His 88.05m, improving his previous season best by 2.23 metres.
Pathirage responded in the third round with 88.14m to reclaim the lead. Neither athlete could improve their mark during the remaining rounds.
The result marked Pathirage’s third consecutive victory over Chopra in 2026. He had previously beaten the Indian star at the Doha Diamond League and Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Chopra said he was pleased with his 88-metre throw. He also noted that the throw felt relaxed despite producing his best distance of the season.
The result gives Chopra momentum ahead of the remaining Diamond League events and next month’s Asian Games.
