India will begin its Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign in Glasgow on 24th July with a 125-member contingent, aiming to maximise its medal tally despite a significantly reduced programme featuring only 10 sports. After a successful outing in Birmingham four years ago, the Indian team will rely on several established stars to lead its challenge.
Neeraj Chopra is India’s biggest medal hope. The Olympic champion returns to the Commonwealth Games after missing the Birmingham edition due to injury, entering Glasgow with a season-best throw of 85.69 metres, looking to peak at the right time.
In weightlifting, Mirabai Chanu remains one of India’s strongest gold medal prospects. The Tokyo Olympic silver medallist and former Commonwealth champion will aim to add another major title despite battling injuries in recent seasons.
Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain will spearhead India’s boxing campaign. Having established herself among the country’s leading boxers, she will be looking to add a Commonwealth Games medal to her growing list of achievements.
In shot put, Tejinderpal Singh Toor arrives with a season-best effort of 21.03 metres and hopes to win his first Commonwealth Games medal against a strong international field.
Meanwhile, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar has returned strongly from a career-ending patellar tendon injury, heading into the Games with a season-best jump of 8.38 metres. His current form makes him one of India’s leading contenders for a podium finish in Glasgow.
