PM Modi Congratulates Nepal’s First Woman Prime Minister, Praises Spirit of Democracy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to Sushila Karki on her appointment as Nepal’s interim Prime Minister. Karki, a former Chief Justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court, has taken over following the departure of the KP Sharma Oli government due to widespread anti-corruption protests. Her appointment is historic, as she becomes the first woman to assume the position of Prime Minister in the country’s history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public gathering in Imphal, Manipur, describing Nepal as a close friend and valued partner of India with centuries-old cultural and historical ties. He expressed optimism that Sushila Karki’s leadership will help Nepal achieve more peace, stability, and democratic governance. PM Modi also praised Nepal’s people for upholding democratic values despite political upheaval.

Furthermore, he also emphasised the positive spirit of Nepal’s youth, who have been spotted cleaning and painting the streets in recent days and sharing their photos widely on social media. PM Modi described their efforts as a sign of Nepal’s resilience and commitment to rebuilding a better future.

During his one-day visit to Manipur, the Prime Minister laid the groundwork for ₹8,500 crore in development projects around the state.
