Dubai has launched a new research and innovation hub aimed at attracting 30,000 researchers, scientists and specialists to develop technologies and solutions for emerging global challenges.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the initiative on November 1. Named Nad Zabeel, the hub is intended to strengthen Dubai’s research ecosystem and support innovation across sectors shaping the future.
The project will be developed in Zabeel Park and is expected to bring together universities, technology companies, investors, government institutions and specialised research organisations. Its facilities will include laboratories, scientific research centres, innovation incubators and spaces for professional and scientific events.
The initiative will focus on fields including artificial intelligence, advanced technologies and healthcare. It will also support start-ups and research projects through accelerator programmes and opportunities to connect with investors.
More than 30,000 scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs are expected to participate in its programmes and activities annually. The development is planned to be completed within five years.
Nad Zabeel will operate within Dubai’s broader research, development and innovation ecosystem, overseen by the Dubai Future Foundation. It will complement existing institutions, including the Museum of the Future and Dubai Future Academy.
The initiative forms part of the emirate’s strategy to expand knowledge-based economic activity and strengthen its position as an international centre for research and technological development.
Dubai aims to use the hub to attract specialised talent, encourage collaboration between public and private institutions and translate research into economic and developmental opportunities.
