Thailand has once again revised its visa policy for Indian travellers, bringing back 30-day visa-free entry after briefly planning to move Indians to the Visa on Arrival (VOA) scheme.
The Thai Cabinet approved the revised policy on July 15, allowing Indian passport holders to visit the country without a visa for up to 30 days. The decision reverses an earlier proposal that would have required Indian travellers to obtain a visa on arrival.
According to Thai authorities, the change follows a decline in visitor numbers from India after uncertainty surrounding the country’s visa policy. Officials said the revised framework is intended to simplify entry procedures while continuing efforts to attract more international tourists.
Under the updated rules, Indian visitors will no longer need to apply for a visa before travelling or obtain a VOA on arrival. However, the maximum visa-free stay has been reduced from 60 days to 30 days, compared with the temporary visa exemption introduced in 2024.
The policy forms part of Thailand’s broader immigration reforms, which aim to simplify visa categories, strengthen border security and promote tourism. Authorities have also introduced a “one country, one visa entitlement” system to streamline entry regulations for foreign visitors.
Indian travellers will be required to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before entering the country. The online form must be submitted before arrival and is part of Thailand’s efforts to digitise immigration procedures.
With India remaining one of Thailand’s largest source markets for international tourists, the return of visa-free travel is expected to make it easier for Indian visitors planning holidays, business trips, and short-term stays.
