US Secretary of State to Lead G20 Foreign Ministers’ Talks in Atlanta

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to host the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, on 30 and 31 October, bringing foreign ministers and senior officials together ahead of the group’s leaders’ summit in December.

The US Department of State announced the meeting in May and later confirmed the dates in its media logistics notice. The ministerial gathering is intended to advance cooperation among G20 economies on global stability and prosperity.

According to the State Department, discussions are expected to focus on international cooperation, global economic challenges, open markets and resilient supply chains. A later notice also identified economic prosperity, energy security and technological innovation as priorities for the meeting.

Atlanta will host the foreign ministers’ gathering before US President Donald Trump hosts the G20 Leaders’ Summit on 14 and 15 December at Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida. The United States is using its 2026 G20 presidency to set the agenda for the year’s meetings.

The G20 provides a forum for major advanced and emerging economies to coordinate on international economic matters and other shared priorities. Its ministerial meetings allow governments to exchange views and prepare for discussions at the leaders’ summit.

The Atlanta event comes as governments seek to address economic uncertainty and concerns over energy security and supply chains. These issues are among the subjects identified by the US administration for discussion.

The ministerial meeting has not yet taken place, so no agreements or outcomes have been announced. Its conclusions will depend on the discussions held by participating delegations and may inform the wider G20 process ahead of the December summit.
