AI emerging as a growth driver for India economy, says President Murmu

President Smt. Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said that India is moving fast towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, with Artificial Intelligence emerging as a key growth driver. She was speaking at a special programme under SOAR – Skilling for AI Readiness held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Smt. Murmu said AI is not just a new technology but a major opportunity for positive change in the country. She noted that in the coming decade, AI will play an important role in India’s GDP growth, job creation, and overall productivity. She added that skills such as data science, AI engineering, and data analytics will be crucial in building a strong AI-ready workforce.

Calling India a young nation, Smt. Murmu said it is important for people across sectors to learn and adapt to AI, as its use is growing rapidly. She said the central government is working with educational institutions, industry, and academia to ensure that India not only uses new technologies but also develops them responsibly.

During the event, the President awarded AI certificates to learners, including students and Members of Parliament, and launched the national awareness campaign Skill The Nation Challenge. She said the initiative aims to spread awareness about AI, promote self-reliance, and prepare a future-ready workforce.

President Murmu also virtually inaugurated the IGNOU Regional Centre and Skill Centre at Rairangpur in Odisha. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary were present at the programme.
