Ajit Kumar Saxena

Mr Saxena, a visionary leader, began his professional journey with a B. Tech in Metallurgy from the prestigious Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University. He also earned an MBA to add a strategic edge to his career. In 1986, he joined the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), as a Management Trainee (Technical). Over the years, he traversed the corridors of Bhilai Steel Plant, undertaking diverse roles that showcased his expertise and dedication. His unwavering commitment and leadership acumen paved the way for an extensive tenure at SAIL, where he consistently ascended the ranks, leaving an indelible mark in the realm of metallurgy and management.

His impact reached new heights during his tenure as Director (Operations) at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL). Under his stewardship, RINL soared to unprecedented heights, achieving record-breaking production and exceptional techno-economic performance during the fiscal year 2021-22. This milestone positioned the organisation as the leading performer among Public Sector Integrated Steel Plants.

Mr. Saxena’s prowess extends beyond administrative roles; he has been the driving force behind commissioning, production escalation, and the successful execution of post-commissioning projects in all finishing mills at the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal. His transformative leadership also spearheaded the ‘SAIL UDAY’ initiative at SAIL-IISCO Steel Plant, catalysing the implementation of strategic measures to elevate operational efficiency and maintenance practices. His passion and expertise played a vital role in addressing intricate challenges and fostering collaborations with entities such as the Railway Board, Rail Vikas Nigam, Rites Ltd., and the Research Design and Standards Organization.

CAREER MILESTONES

Mr. Saxena’s journey in the business world has been marked by remarkable achievements. Notably, during 2021-2022, as a leader at RINL, he orchestrated a significant turnaround in both production and profit, reinforcing his reputation as a visionary in the industry. His significant role in meeting the extensive rail needs of the Railways, coupled with his efforts in defining their specifications during the late 1990s and early 2000s, demonstrates his unwavering commitment and expertise.

Furthermore, under his stellar leadership, MOIL Limited has delivered an exceptional performance in the fiscal year 2023. The organisation achieved its highest-ever quarterly production of manganese ore, with an impressive 35% year-on-year growth. Moreover, its capital expenditure nearly matched its profit after tax. During the initial quarter, MOIL achieved record-breaking sales, boasting an impressive 39% growth compared to the previous year. Its production of Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide (EMD) reached its peak quarterly levels, operating at full capacity.

Mr. Saxena’s relentless dedication led MOIL to achieve the top Government e-Market Place (GeM) procurement, showcasing its prowess in government contracts. The organisation also excelled in exploratory core drilling, achieving a quarterly record 3.8 times higher than the previous year. Financially, it has demonstrated exceptional growth, with a remarkable 34% surge in market capitalisation, equivalent to INR 1000 crore, between March 31, 2023, and July 17, 2023. This remarkable performance underscores the leader’s efforts in building MOIL’s robust market presence.

LED BY SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Mr. Saxena’s leadership has transformed MOIL into a model of responsible corporate citizenship, leaving a lasting impact on communities and setting an example for the business world. Under his stewardship, CSR has become the hallmark of MOIL, setting a standard for innovative and impactful initiatives in a wide array of areas, including health, education, road and school construction, water supply facilities, peripheral development, sports, culture, and community development in and around MOIL’s operational areas.

One standout endeavour led by MOIL under Mr. Saxena’s guidance is the sponsorship of 50 rural students from economically disadvantaged families, providing them with opportunities for nursing education at Apollo Nursing College, Hyderabad. MOIL has also established MOIL DAV Public School with 35 classrooms, accommodating 1,400 students in Chikla, Maharashtra, with plans for another DAV school underway in Munsar mines. It has also adopted 22 villages surrounding its mining areas, and performed thousands of free cataract and cleft lip surgeries for the most disadvantaged individuals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Saxena ensured rigorous safety protocols and medical support for MOIL’s workforce.

SPECTACULAR ACHIEVEMENTS

Mr. Saxena was honoured with the “Young Metallurgy of the Year Award” by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, in 2000. His dedicated efforts have also consistently garnered accolades for MOIL. An avid reader, Mr. Saxena has equal fascination with technical and management books. He is also a passionate cricket enthusiast. Whenever his busy schedule permits, he indulges in the joy of watching and following cricket.
