Aman Sehrawat, a bronze medallist at the Paris Olympics, displayed remarkable grit to win the men’s freestyle 61kg gold medal at the National Wrestling Championship 2025, held at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura, Ahmedabad. Despite an eyebrow injury sustained during the competition, Aman powered through the field with dominant performances and strong tactical control.
The Railways wrestler became eligible for the tournament after his suspension, imposed for breaching the 57kg weight limit at the World Championships in Zagreb, was lifted last month. To avoid weight-cutting issues, he competed in a heavier category and defeated Adhit Narayan of Kerala 12-1 and Lalit of Madhya Pradesh 10-0.
In the semifinals, Aman overcame a 0-2 deficit to defeat Rajasthan’s Anuj Kumar 13-2 before defeating Delhi’s Nikhil 10-0 in the final. His injury resulted from a head clash with Lalit, leaving his left brow swollen and bleeding.
Despite needing bandages, Aman wrestled three more bouts and afterward acknowledged fans by posing for photographs. He described the competition as a wonderful experience that demonstrated his resilience and competitive spirit.
