India will host the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championships 2027 in New Delhi, a key qualifying event for shooting at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced on Tuesday. The championships will be held from December 1 to 10 at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges and will offer eight continental quota places for LA 2028.
This will be the second Olympic qualifying shooting event hosted by India in 2027. Earlier, the New Delhi leg of the ISSF World Cup series for rifle, pistol, and shotgun shooters is scheduled at the same venue in April, where 12 quota places, one in each Olympic shooting event, will be available.
Quota places for LA 2028 can only be earned through designated ISSF Olympic qualifying competitions. The qualification window opens on July 31, 202,6 and closes on May 1, 2028. Shooting at the LA Games will feature 340 athletes across 15 events, with 316 quota places distributed through competitions. Each National Olympic Committee can qualify a maximum of 24 shooters, 12 men and 12 women, with no more than two athletes per individual event.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics, India fielded a 21-member contingent and won three bronze medals. Manu Bhaker claimed two, while Swapnil Kusale secured one in the men’s rifle. India is also hosting the Asian Shooting Championship 2026 in New Delhi this month.
