India Set to Face Afghanistan in Three-Match T20I Series in September

Afghanistan are likely to host India in a three-match T20 International series in September, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 13, 15 and 17. However, the schedule is yet to receive official confirmation.

If held as planned, the series will mark the first time Afghanistan host India on Indian soil. Afghanistan have regularly staged their home matches in India, including Lucknow, Dehradun and Greater Noida serving as home grounds over the years.

The T20I series is expected to fit into India’s schedule between the conclusion of its Sri Lanka tour and the Asian Games in Japan. India’s second Test against Sri Lanka is scheduled to conclude on August 27, with the Asian Games set to begin on September 24, a week after the proposed final T20I against Afghanistan.

India and Afghanistan last met in June, when the Afghan team toured India for a one-off Test and three One-Day Internationals. India completed a 3-0 ODI series sweep, including a dominant innings and 300-run victory in the Test at New Chandigarh.

India have experienced mixed results in white-ball cricket in recent months. After winning the T20 World Cup, they lost both T20Is against Ireland in Belfast before suffering a 4-0 T20I series defeat to England, followed by a 2-1 ODI series loss. India are currently touring Zimbabwe for a three-match series.

Afghanistan, meanwhile, last played a T20I in India during the 2026 T20 World Cup, where they won two of their four group-stage matches but did not qualify for the Super Eight stage.
