India, South Korea Deepen Defence Industry Cooperation

India and South Korea have agreed to strengthen cooperation in defence industries and logistics following the 10th India-Republic of Korea Joint Committee Meeting on Defence Industries and Logistics Cooperation in New Delhi on September 29.

The meeting was co-chaired by Dinesh Mahur, Additional Secretary in India’s Department of Defence Production, and Kim Il Dong, Vice Minister at South Korea’s Defence Acquisition Program Administration. Both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation and discussed areas for further collaboration.

The discussions focused on expanding engagement between the two countries’ defence industries. They also covered opportunities to increase cooperation in defence production and logistics.

The meeting builds on broader efforts by India and South Korea to expand their defence relationship. In May, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held talks with South Korea’s then Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back in Seoul.

The two sides reviewed cooperation across defence industry, production, maritime security, emerging technologies, military exchanges and logistics. They also signed agreements covering defence cyber cooperation, training and UN peacekeeping.

Singh had also called for greater collaboration between Indian and South Korean companies in developing and producing advanced technologies.

The latest committee meeting provides a mechanism for both countries to review existing projects and identify areas for further cooperation. Defence production and logistics remain key parts of the bilateral defence relationship.

India and South Korea have also been expanding engagement in emerging defence technologies and industrial cooperation as part of their broader strategic relationship. The latest discussions focused specifically on strengthening practical cooperation between their defence industries and improving logistical links.
