India’s Kamaljeet Singh and Suruchi Singh won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on September 25. The pair finished with 484.6 points to give India its second gold medal of the Games.
The Indian pair had topped qualification with 587 points before advancing to the four-team final. They maintained the lead throughout the competition and finished 6.6 points ahead of South Korea’s Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo, who took silver with 478.0. Iran won bronze with 415.8.
Their final score also set a new Asian Games record. The Indian pair had been put together at the last minute after Kamaljeet replaced Kedarling Balakrishna Uchaganve as Suruchi’s partner. Kamaljeet had been India’s strongest performer in the men’s individual qualification, finishing ninth with 580 points, one point short of the final.
Suruchi had finished 26th in the women’s individual qualification, while Kamaljeet narrowly missed the men’s final. The mixed team event therefore provided both shooters with another opportunity to compete for a medal.
The victory was India’s first shooting gold at the 2026 Asian Games and its second gold overall after the women’s cricket team won the T20 title. The result also extended India’s medal haul in shooting at the Games.
Kamaljeet and Suruchi’s victory c remained ahead of South Korea throughout the final before securing the title with a record score.
