ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan extended his best wishes to the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL) on the occasion of its 33rd Foundation Day at Gadanki on Tuesday.
Mr. Narayanan took part in a brainstorming session held during the two-day celebrations at the NARL campus. He credited the steady growth of the laboratory to the strong foundation laid by its former directors and the vision of its earlier governing council members. He also urged NARL to prepare a detailed vision document covering its various research areas, taking into account suggestions shared by experts during the session.
Former ISRO chairpersons D. Radhakrishnan and A.S. Kiran Kumar spoke about NARL’s long association with the Indian Space Research Organisation. They highlighted the laboratory’s major contributions, including the use of CORS and NaVIC data for national-level applications.
NARL Director A.K. Patra presented an overview of the laboratory’s journey, recalling how the National MST Radar Facility later evolved into NARL. He acknowledged the contributions of former directors P.B. Rao, D. Narayana Rao, and A. Jayaraman. NARL Scientific Advisory Committee Alternate Chairman Bhat praised the dedication of the laboratory’s scientists and engineers.
Several senior scientists and officials attended the event, including Space Applications Centre Director Nilesh Desai, former SHAR Director P. Kunhikrishnan, Indian Institute of Geomagnetism Director A.P. Dimri, IIST Vice-Chancellor Deepankar Banerjee, and ADRIN Director Novaline Jacob.
