Karnataka, Malaysia Discuss Expanding Education and Technology Partnerships

Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held discussions to strengthen cooperation between Karnataka and Malaysia, focusing on education, technology, innovation and exchange programs.

The discussions occurred over a call. In which Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Shivakumar on assuming office as Karnataka’s Chief Minister. According to Shivakumar, both leaders explored opportunities to deepen academic and technological collaboration by building on the already strong educational links between the 2 parties.

Karnataka currently hosts a significant number of Malaysian students pursuing higher education, creating a strong foundation for expanding institutional partnerships and cultural exchanges. The Chief Minister said there is potential for collaboration in areas such as innovation, research-driven initiatives and talent exchange programmes.

Shivakumar also expressed his eagerness to visit Malaysia and invited Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to visit Karnataka to explore opportunities across education, technology, industry and culture. The conversation reflected Karnataka’s increasing focus on building stronger international partnerships to support higher education, research and technological advancement.

The discussions further highlighted Karnataka’s efforts to position itself as a global hub for innovation, skilled talent development and research-led growth, while strengthening international engagement with key partners such as Malaysia.
