Awais Ahmed, founder and CEO of Pixxel, emerges as one of the leading young entrepreneurs driving India’s private space revolution. From Aldur in Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district to building a globally recognised space-tech company reflects years of curiosity, determination, and innovation.
Growing up, Ahmed developed an early fascination with astronomy, spending hours reading about planets, stars, and black holes from a young age. Encouraged by his family and inspired by science encyclopaedias, leading him towards aerospace engineering and satellite technology.
While studying engineering, Ahmed began working on student satellite programmes, gaining hands-on experience in spacecraft design and remote sensing. In 2019, he co-founded Pixxel, a Bengaluru-based startup focused on building a constellation of hyperspectral imaging satellites to capture detailed Earth observation data.
The company has since grown into one of India’s most prominent private space startups, securing contracts with NASA and attracting global investors. Pixxel’s hyperspectral satellites are designed to support industries including agriculture, mining, climate monitoring, and environmental management by providing advanced data for real-time decision-making.
According to reports, Pixxel has raised over $60 million in funding and continues expanding its satellite constellation while strengthening India’s presence in the global commercial space sector.
Ahmed’s success has become a source of pride for his hometown, with family members recalling his passion for science from an early age.
