Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has concluded a five-day visit to Spain, Belgium, Finland and Estonia, to strengthen India’s economic engagement with Europe and build momentum following the successful conclusion of the India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.
During the visit, Goyal held high-level meetings with government leaders, ministers and business executives to deepen trade, investment and technology partnerships. Accompanied by a high-level Indian business delegation, he promoted greater business-to-business collaboration and explored opportunities across key sectors.
In Spain, Goyal proposed an annual India–Spain Joint Commission with business participation and discussed cooperation in digital payments through interoperability between India’s UPI and Spain’s Bizum platform. Both countries also identified opportunities in the automotive, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, textiles, tourism and infrastructure sectors, with Goyal unveiling a “10×10×10” vision to increase bilateral trade, investment and tourism tenfold over the next decade.
In Belgium, he co-chaired the third India–EU Trade and Technology Council Ministerial Meeting, where both sides adopted the 2026-27 TTC Action Plan and reaffirmed their commitment to the early signing and implementation of the India–EU FTA. Discussions also covered investment protection, geographical indications, market access and cooperation on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
Goyal’s meetings in Finland focused on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum computing and clean energy, and the first ministerial visit to Estonia from India since the opening of its embassy in Tallinn highlighted opportunities in cybersecurity, blockchain and green hydrogen.
