Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mauritius on March 11 and 12 as the special guest for the country’s National Day celebrations. The annual March 12 celebration commemorates Mauritius’ independence from British sovereignty in 1968.
Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, confirmed the visit, noting that an Indian Defence Forces detachment and an Indian Navy ship would attend the ceremonies. This is PM Modi’s first visit to Mauritius in over a decade, having last been there in 2015.
During his visit, he will meet with Mauritius’ President and Prime Minister, as well as discuss issues with senior leaders and dignitaries. He will also inaugurate the Civil Service College and the Area Health Centre, both built with financial aid from India. Several MoUs are expected to be signed, enhancing bilateral collaboration.
The MEA highlighted India and Mauritius’ long-standing historical and cultural links, emphasising that the island nation is an essential part of India’s Vision SAGAR. The visit is anticipated to reaffirm both countries’ commitment to improving cooperation across a variety of industries.
Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam expressed pride in hosting Modi, describing his visit as an important diplomatic milestone.
