In a feat that redefines perseverance, Pooja Rani Bohra has made her name in Indian sporting history. On January 10, 2026, the Bhiwani-born boxer won her record-breaking 10th National title at the 9th Elite Men’s and Women’s National Boxing Championships in Greater Noida. With gold in the 75–80 kg light heavyweight category, she surpassed the long-standing record of nine titles held by fellow Bhiwani boxer Kavita Chahal.
Pooja began boxing in 2009, when the sport was still seen as unsuitable for women in her community. Her father, Rajbir Singh Bohra, a policeman, strongly opposed her choice, fearing for her safety. Determined to continue, Pooja trained in secret for nearly a year. Her coach, Sanjay Sheoran, later convinced her family of her talent, after which her father became one of her strongest supporters.
Her career also faced physical setbacks. While recovering from burn injuries, Pooja suffered a serious shoulder problem that kept her out of the ring for 18 months. Many doubted her return, but she came back stronger, proving her mental strength.
Another major test came after her marriage to Akash Singhmar in early 2023. Defying expectations, Pooja returned to competition within a matter of months. She credits her husband and mother-in-law for standing by her decision, underlining the power of support behind her historic success.
