Sharjah Unveils Region’s First Digital System to Track Every Fishing Operation

Sharjah has taken a significant step towards transforming its fisheries sector by introducing the region’s first entirely digital system for tracking all stages of local fishing operations. The new QR-based technology enables authorities and consumers to instantly verify the origin, type, and quantity of each catch, establishing a modern and transparent method that supports national food security.

Sharjah Asset Management and Seafood Souq started the program in Souq Al Jubail. Each vessel is assigned a unique QR code, allowing for end-to-end monitoring from the minute the boat leaves the shore until the seafood reaches the market. This makes it the first fully integrated digital traceability solution in the UAE and the wider region.

Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi and Omar Al Mulla attended the event, where they also announced the expansion to Souq Al Jubail – Hamriyah and Souq Al Jubail – Kalba, assuring total digital monitoring of major landing points. Seafood Souq confirmed that efforts are underway with MOCCAE to expand the platform across the country.

Officials claim the system increases transparency, decreases administrative delays, and fosters trust in locally sourced seafood. It strengthens Sharjah’s commitment to sustainability, promotes responsible fishing techniques, and positions the emirate as a leader in the smart economy.
