Indonesia showed interest in purchasing the BrahMos supersonic missile system shortly after India finished the first batch at its new integration and testing facility in Lucknow. According to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Indonesia has formally requested missiles manufactured at the Uttar Pradesh facility. He announced the update while speaking to party workers in Lucknow.
The first batch was launched on October 18 by Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The enhanced facility, which opened on May 11, is now fully operational. Built at a cost of Rs 300 crore, the facility is located in Bhatgaon, Sarojini Nagar, and is regarded as one of the most important initiatives within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor. The state government provided 80 hectares of free land to allow for rapid system assembly, integration, and testing.
Singh’s announcement comes shortly after the Philippines unveiled the BrahMos batteries that it purchased from India in 2022. Three batteries were purchased, with the first being deployed in Western Luzon by the Philippine Marine Corps’ Coastal Defence Regiment.
Earlier reports indicated that Indonesia’s Defence Ministry had offered a $450 million deal, but financial limitations slowed the process. Other countries, such as Argentina, have shown interest.
