Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Minister of State Raksha Khadse have welcomed the announcement that India will host the 2028 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Expressing his excitement, Mandaviya said, “The world is coming to India,” highlighting the country’s growing stature as a global sporting destination. He credited the leadership of Narendra Modi for India’s progress, noting that the nation is not only improving its medal tally but also emerging as a preferred host for major international events.
Echoing similar sentiments, Khadse described the development as a “historic milestone,” stating that India is evolving from being merely a participant to becoming a key hub on the global sports map. She added that the achievement reflects India’s expanding capabilities in both athlete performance and world-class event hosting.
The announcement was made by Bahadur Singh Sagoo, president of the Athletics Federation of India, after the decision by the World Athletics Council during its meeting in Toruń, Poland. The championship will be held at the Kalinga Indoor Stadium, which has already received positive reviews from international officials.
