India’s Tanvi Sharma captured her maiden BWF World Tour title after defeating Vietnam’s Thuy Linh Nguyen in straight games, securing the Taipei Open Super 300 women’s singles title. Tanvi Sharma’s Taipei Open triumph came in commanding fashion as the 17-year-old secured a 21-16, 21-16 victory in just 36 minutes, marking the biggest title of her career.
The Tanvi Sharma BWF title run included an impressive semifinal victory over Huang Yu-Hsun of Chinese Taipei, where she won 21-17, 21-11 to book her place in the final. At 17 years and 222 days, she becomes the youngest finalist in the tournament’s history, surpassing the previous record set by South Korean badminton star Lee Yong Dae in 2006.
With the victory, she also becomes the fourth Indian women’s singles player to win a BWF Super 300 or higher title. The Badminton Association of India celebrated the achievement, describing it as another milestone for Indian badminton.
The teenager is coached by Park Tae-sang, the former coach of Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, and has earned praise for her attacking style and consistency on court. The Tanvi Sharma Taipei Open victory further establishes her as one of India’s brightest young badminton stars and a promising talent on the international circuit.
