Neelam Sirohi clinched the silver medal in the women’s 50kg freestyle category at the Zagreb Open 2026 wrestling tournament in Croatia on Thursday, as India’s medal tally at the first UWW Ranking Series event of the year rose to seven.
India now has one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals. Bronze medals on the day were won by Vicky Hooda (men’s 97kg), Dinesh Dhankhar (men’s 125kg), and Muskan (women’s 50kg).
Neelam enjoyed an impressive run to the final, opening with a dominant 10-0 win over Poland’s Agata Walerzak and then defeating Azerbaijan’s Elnura Mammadova 12-2 in the quarter-finals. She edged past compatriot Muskan 7-4 in the semi-finals before losing 5-2 to Japan’s Haruna Morikawa, a U23 world champion, in the gold medal bout.
Muskan recovered from her semi-final loss to claim bronze, defeating Walerzak 11-0.
In the men’s 97kg category, Vicky Hooda secured bronze after beating France’s Adlan Vishkhanov 8-2 in the playoff, following wins in repechage. Dinesh Dhankhar claimed bronze in the 125kg division with a pinfall victory over Poland’s Kamil Kosciolek.
Earlier, Sujeet Kalkal won gold in the 65kg category, while Aman Sehrawat took silver in the men’s 61kg event.
