United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his official visit to India, with energy cooperation emerging as one of the central themes of discussions. Rubio’s visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to deepen strategic ties amid global geopolitical tensions, particularly concerns surrounding energy security and regional stability.
During meetings in New Delhi, the two sides discussed trade, maritime security, the Indo-Pacific strategy, and the ongoing instability linked to the Iran conflict, which has affected global oil supplies and shipping routes. Rubio reportedly encouraged India to diversify its energy imports by increasing purchases of American energy resources, while India stressed the importance of maintaining stable and secure global energy markets.
Rubio also held talks with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to strengthening ties with New Delhi. The visit additionally focused on advancing bilateral trade discussions and reinforcing cooperation within the Quad grouping comprising India, the United States, Australia, and Japan. Analysts view the visit as an effort to repair strains caused by recent trade disputes and evolving regional dynamics involving China and Pakistan.
