Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi Will Be Republic Day 2023 Chief Guest

The President of Egypt, General Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will be the Chief Guest for the Republic Day Parade in 2023.

This is the first time that the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt will be the Chief Guest at our Republic Day, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a press release, underlining the “warm and friendly relations” between the two countries based on civilizational and deep-rooted people-to-people ties.

This year, India and Egypt are marking the 75 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties. The MEA in the release stated that India has invited Egypt as the ‘guest country’ during India’s G20 presidency in 2022-2023. Notably, India will assume the G20 Presidency on December 1.

Egypt has been one of India’s largest trading partners in Africa, and India-Egypt bilateral agreement has been in operation since 1978.

India did not invite any foreign dignitary as the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations in 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic, former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was the chief guest of the 2020 Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.
