Jannik Sinner Clinches Second Straight Australian Open Title, Earns ₹19 Cr

Jannik Sinner, the world number one, won the Australian Open for the second straight year on Sunday. The 23-year-old Italian beat Germany’s Alexander Zverev in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3, to win his second major title. Sinner dropped only two sets during the competition, demonstrating his strong form. The winner won ₹19 crore ($2.2 million) in prize money, while the runner-up, Zverev, still seeking his maiden Grand Slam championship, earned ₹10 crore ($1.2 million).

Madison Keys, an American, also made news on Saturday by winning her first Grand Slam title. She defeated top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling three-set final.

Sinner’s win extends a remarkable run that began with his first major title at last year’s Australian Open. He also won the U.S. Open, one of eight ATP titles in 2024, cementing his status as the world’s best player. Sinner became the first Italian to hold the number-one spot since its creation in 1973.

Sinner’s official winnings and incentives this season were $19.7 million. In addition, he earned $6 million from the Saudi Arabia-based Six Kings Slam demonstration.
