Jasprit Bumrah reclaimed the top spot in the latest ICC Rankings after his impressive performance against Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). The rankings, revealed on Wednesday, highlighted Bumrah’s impact in India’s 295-run win in Perth.
Bumrah took eight wickets in the match, with figures of 5/72 in the first innings and three more in the second. His performance boosted him from the Number three position to the top, earning a career-best 883 ranking points.
In the batter rankings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli made significant gains following their centuries against Australia. Jaiswal, who scored his maiden Test hundred in Australia, rose to the second spot, trailing only England’s Joe Root. Kohli’s 30th Test century marked his return to form in red-ball cricket, moving him up nine places to 13th. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant maintained his position at sixth.
Mohammed Siraj, Bumrah’s teammate, also advanced in the rankings. After taking five wickets in the match, Siraj climbed three places to 25th.
Among all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin held the top two spots in the Test rankings. Despite not playing in the first Test, the Indian spin duo remained dominant in the rankings.
