The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has elected Kapil Dev, a renowned Indian cricketer and an avid amateur golfer, as its new president. Following H Srinivasan’s withdrawal of his candidature, he took over as president.
The executive director of PGTI, Uttam Singh Mundy, highlighted Dev’s “valuable experience as a professional sportsman” and how it would propel “the further growth of Indian professional golf.”
At 65 years old, Kapil Dev is still widely regarded as one of cricket’s all-time best all-rounders. He spearheaded India’s 1983 World Cup victory, which sparked a cricket revolution in his home nation. He left a legacy that motivates young cricketers, even after he retired from international play in 1994.
After Dev retired, he focused on golf, a sport he has a profound affection for. He spoke highly of the new position when he accepted it as president of the PGTI. For the past three years, Dev has been an active member of the PGTI governing body and has held the position of vice president, demonstrating that his involvement in golf is more than surface level. He has been even more dedicated to the sport as the host of the Kapil Dev-Grant Thornton Invitational.
