Neeraj Chopra, an Indian javelin superstar, made history at the Doha Diamond League 2025 by becoming the first Indian athlete to break the famous 90-meter barrier in men’s javelin. Chopra joined the ranks of the world’s top javelin throwers with a spectacular throw of 90.23 meters. Despite this achievement, he had to settle for second place, as Germany’s Julian Weber won with an incredible 91.06-meter throw.
Chopra began the competition at the Qatar Sports Club Stadium with a strong 88.44-meter attempt, quickly establishing himself among the leaders. Despite his second throw being a foul, he gathered momentum and threw the historic 90.23 meters on his third attempt. This was not only a personal best, but it also put him in a small company of only 25 athletes globally who have accomplished such a feat.
His latest success comes under the guidance of new coach Jan Zelezny, a great javelin thrower and three-time Olympic gold medallist. Zelezny owns the world record with a throw of 98.48 meters. Chopra’s performance in Doha was his first major tournament since the coaching change.
