Nishad Kumar Secures Silver, Adds to India’s Medal Tally at Paris Paralympics

Nishad Kumar of India won silver in the men’s high jump T47 final at the Paris Paralympics, giving India its eighth medal. Nishad, who also won silver in Tokyo, recorded a season-high jump of 2.04 meters. The US Townsend-Roberts won gold with a 2.08-meter leap, while Russia’s Georgii Margiev got bronze.

India’s current medal count in the Paris Paralympics is seven, with one gold, two silvers, and four bronze. Preeti Pal made history on Sunday when she won bronze in the 200m T-35 race in 30.01 seconds, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in track and field in the Paralympics or Olympics. She previously won bronze in the 100m T35 competition with a personal best time of 14.21 seconds.

As an incumbent Paralympic champion, Avani Lekhara earned gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final with a personal best score of 249.7 points, while Rubina took bronze in the P2-Women’s 10M Air Pistol SH-1 final with 211.1 points. Mona Agarwal took bronze in the same event, while Manish Narwal won silver in the men’s P1 10m air pistol SH1 category.
