PM Modi to Inaugurate Historic USBRL Railway Link in Jammu and Kashmir on April 19

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) on April 19, marking an important moment in India’s infrastructure growth. The 272-kilometer project, which includes a 119-kilometer tunnel, will greatly improve communication in Jammu and Kashmir. This enormous rail link is a long-awaited development in the region.

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity at the Railway Board, stated that the dream of connecting Kashmir by train has now become a reality. The day of the inauguration will also see the departure of two Vande Bharat Express trains.

In January, Indian Railways successfully tested a Vande Bharat train from Katra to Srinagar. The train, designed to withstand extreme cold, will cross the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the renowned Chenab Bridge, which is taller than the Eiffel Tower.

The Chenab Bridge, which is 467 meters tall, is built with 29,000 tonnes of steel and is designed to withstand earthquakes of magnitude 8. The USBRL covers various districts, including Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Srinagar, Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam, and Baramulla.
